My Pursuit of Education
After graduating from Lews Castle College, I wanted not only to gain additional qualification but to expand my knowledge further on all Gaelic subjects. It is why I applied for Berkeley University in California. I remember how happy I was when I was accepted – and so, my journey began. It didn’t take me long to say farewell to my friends, family, and native land, as I was already packed and ready to go.
Apart from on going to the mainland on many occasions and visiting London a couple of times, I’ve never been away for long. After the first month, my excitement had settled down and a feeling of nostalgia had embraced me like a “grieving friend”. It only got heavier with time, as almost every lecture in my Celtic Studies Program reminded me of home – the Gaelic language, the ancient symbols, the highland nature pictures projected onto the wall…
Finding New Meaning
A thought came into my mind in one nostalgia-filled day and became an idea. I wasn’t going to allow my feelings of being homesick to make me feel distant, in fact, I decided to do something big, that will bring me closer to the Hebrides than ever. With the help of a few IT colleagues, I created this website and decided to dedicate it to a very special land that everyone has to visit at least once in their lifetime!
It’s Real
My goal is not to simply advertise beautiful natural scenery, but much more. As is with any society, the Western Isles have their own challenges which they face every day, and I believe that it is of the utmost importance that many people should know about it. Help must come from both inside and the outside, and this is why I have taken upon myself to make sure that everything that is worth mentioning about the Outer Hebrides, is mentioned here.
Good Things Come to Those Who Are Dedicated
My journey to the States has taught me that wonderful things happen to those who inspire and help people. For a long period of time, I’ve struggled to find my own place in this world, but today my goal is clear – to help preserve the cultural heritage of my homeland and help as much as I can with eliminating economic and social issues. I will continue to post content regarding upcoming and current sports events, celebrations, community achievements, and everything else. Stay tuned!
